La Santa camp in Lanzarote and race time!

Well I’m back in London after another fun packed 10 days of sun, training and laughing. Lanzarote was not as warm as last year but the fun factor was just the same. We had 60 people  of varying ability and who all stuck in and gave it all on the sessions. I loved loved loved it there, esp the 50m pool, oh what joy it is to train in such a fantastic pool, you just seemed to ease and glide your way thro the sets.

It was my second trip to the Richard Hobson training camp and it was like I never left. A big reunion of all the old friends you made last year. I am starting to get used this small nit community of triathletes…

Did some really good mileage on the bike and had some fantastic tuition on the technicalities of gears and hills with the MASTER ‘Pete the BIKE.’ I learnt loads and seemed to be rocketing up and down the hills on my new Cannondale SLICE.

On Weds we all  did a 20mile TT so I put on my loaned (thanks Steve from Bike and Run) Lightweight wheels.Did a pretty good time BUt  it was very windy (makes a change)

I did however have an incident the first day you see I always take ‘Princess” my smoothie maker with me everywhere I go. And this trip was no exception. BUT the first morning I was there I was a little sleepy and some of it’s contents seeped into the mechanics and gave me a electrcal shock. ‘That hurt ‘ I thought as I bounced of the wall and onto the floor. So my lovely room mates helped by letting me unplug the appliance with rubber. But as I tried to reach the plug ZZZIPP another shock twice as bad as the first one. Ok those who know yep I should have just left it but no the two mateys decided that the electricity was still off and all was safe  so I went to unplug and ZZZZZIPPPP yep another  shock. The roomies were in tears not out of concern but the fact they didn’t remember which switch was off or on. MMMMMMMMMMMM (By the way they are the same two who put me round a bike course one lap too many on my first triathlon)

The rest of the trip went smoothly and it climaxed with the race and a new bike route that was hilly and windy, `I must admit I found the bike route last year easier with a a nice long descent .

The 400 strong pack of swimmers was daunting and there was so much pushing and shoving many didnt even finish the course. i was pushed  around and had to get up and walk along the sandy shallow parts as u couldn’t actually swim it! I came to T1 battered and bruised so was a relief to get on my bike. It was a head wind on the downs so no real respite all the way on the 2 lap course. The saving grace was that it was not hot, but cloudy and brisk. The run is always tough but I was determined not to let anyone pass me and they didn’t. So came 7th overall with a faster time  than last year so something is working..after the awards ceremony  it was party party party til the birds sang…
