Stunts and bruises.. Par for the course?

An eventful few weeks- being chucked out of a car for ‘The Bill’ ending up with a couple of bruises to racing in the depths of Northumberland in an off road triathlon..and ending up with a great deal more than just bruises! Stitches? Nah just gathering more battle scars.

A fight sequence dressed as an old woman and being pushed from a car was my most interesting stunts this month. Followed swiftly by a cold wet and slippery Triathlon- getting back on the Moutain Bike after recovering from my broken rib during Xterra UK race in July.

It has been a tough few weeks of injury but survival is the key. The race was Kielder Triathlon, 1800ft of climbing with a red route grading for the MTB leg, a cold and very dark swim and the run was up 1500ft , and very boggy conditions. I actually thought I was going to be swollowed up by the mud, but just ended with losing the shoes in the ‘quick sand’ conditions.

My crash was unexpected as I had already ridden the course the day before and it was uneventful. The wooden bridge I was on at the time was the culprit. My front wheel suddenly gave way  whilst I kept going. I slid head first on the sharp stoney ground and was badly bleeding,  but I dusted off, put the ‘back to front’ bike back together and raced until the end.  Pure will power got me through and I had no idea I was in the lead and that I had won until the end.

Now concentrating on healing quickly and training hard for World Xterra Championships in Hawaii in October. So need to get back on that horse…..
